Frequently Asked Questions

General

What types of internships are available at your film/TV production company?

We offer a variety of internships in different departments such as Script Development, Creative (editing, marketing/advertising, graphic design, etc.), A.I., and Production. Interns are placed based on their area of study, career interests, qualifications, and the needs of the company.

Are the internships paid or unpaid?

Our internships are unpaid; however we offer academic credit and valuable front-row experience in the film and television industry. Some departments may offer a small stipend to cover travel and meal expenses, typically based on the needs of production, your placement on or off set, and the duties of your role.

How long is the internship program?

Internships generally last for one academic calendar semester (10-15 weeks) during the fall, spring, or summer. Our dates for Fall 2024, Spring 2025 and Summer 2025 are as follows:

Summer 2025: 6/9/25-8/15/25

We are aware of varied school schedules and will try to accommodate individual requests.

Internship Experience

What will my responsibilities be as an intern?

Intern responsibilities vary by department but may include assisting with production tasks, conducting research, preparing script coverage, supporting marketing efforts, managing social media accounts, and more. Your internship supervisor and other American High faculty will guide you throughout your internship.

Will I have the opportunity to work on live sets?

In order to be considered for on-set opportunities, please apply for our Production Internship. Development and Creative interns work entirely off-set.

Are there networking opportunities during the internship?

Absolutely! We offer various networking events, including weekly workshops and Q&A sessions with industry veterans and entertainment professionals that are FREE to all interns. Interns local to Syracuse will also be invited to any advance screenings of our upcoming films that occur during the internship window.

Logistics and Support

Where is the internship located?

Development interns work remotely, while Creative interns can work remotely or in-person depending on their proximity to Syracuse — exact schedule confirmed on a case-by-case basis.

Our production internships are on-site at our main office located in Liverpool, NY (right outside of Syracuse!). Production interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.

What should I wear during the internship?

At American High, we play as hard as we work. Come prepared to do an amazing job, but feel free to dress casually around the office! If you’re working on set, please be mindful of dressing appropriately for any weather or location-related conditions (snow, in the woods, etc).

Post-Internship Opportunities

Is there an opportunity for full-time employment after the internship?

While an internship does not guarantee full-time employment, we often hire former interns who have excelled during their time with us. Interns are encouraged to stay in touch with their supervisors.

Will I be able to request a letter of recommendation after my internship?

Yes, upon successful completion of the internship, interns may request a letter of recommendation from their supervisor or mentor. Requests will be approved on a case-by-case basis according to the supervisor’s bandwidth and the intern’s performance.
